Learning Objectives
The course aim to describe the main methods of infectious diseases transmission with the related preventive interventions for their containment, elimination and possible eradication.
Prerequisites
Students must already have knowledge about microbiology.

Type of Assessment
Written exam. It will be in oral (2 questions) form for emergency COVID 19.The written exam includes 30 multiple choice and open questions on topics carried out in the lessons by Prof. Sacco and Prof. Donato.

Objectives of Hygiene and Public Health. Health promotion and protection.
Epidemiology of infectious diseases - Etiology of infectious diseases. Sources and reservoirs of infection. Transmission of disease and chain of infection.
Frequency of infectious diseases in the population.
Definition and objectives of prevention - Primary and secondary prevention.
Infectious disease prevention - disease notification and epidemiological investigation. Isolation and health surveillance. Objectives and methods of sterilization and disinfection.
Vaccinoprophylaxis: composition, requirements and methods of administration of vaccines, adversed reactions and contraindications, mandatory vaccinations and recommended vaccinations. Italian vaccination calendar. Immunoglobulin prophylaxis, seroprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis.
Hospital infections: epidemiology, causes, sources and vehicles of infection, transmission, etiological agents and prevention.
Foodborne diseases: infections, toxic infections and intoxications. Etiological agents, food at risk and prevention.
Epidemiology and prevention of some infectious diseases - Influenza, Viral hepatitis (HAV, HBV, HDV, HCV), chicken pox, herpes zoster, mumps, meningitis, TORCH and measles.
